Garmin Forerunner 970 GPS running smartwatch in carbon gray, compared with the Forerunner 570

Garmin Forerunner 570 vs. 970: Which Running Watch Should You Buy?

The Garmin Forerunner 570 and 970 both suit runners who take training seriously. The clearest reason to pay more for the 970 is that you will use its built-in mapping, navigation or LED flashlight. If you mainly run familiar routes and want training guidance, the 570 may be the better buy.

When does the Forerunner 570 make more sense?

Choose the 570 when your goal is to understand workouts and recovery, track runs accurately and use daily smartwatch features. The 47 mm model we stock includes multiband GPS, music storage and Garmin Pay. Connected calls require a compatible phone. It is especially compelling if you do not expect to use maps on the watch.

When is the 970 worth the extra $200 at our current prices?

Built-in full-color maps let you follow routes on the watch, and the LED flashlight can help in low light. The 970 also has a sapphire crystal lens and titanium bezel. For an athlete who regularly runs unfamiliar roads or trails, those differences can be meaningful. We would not suggest paying for them if you know they will go unused.

What about battery life?

Garmin rates the 570 at up to 11 days in smartwatch mode and the 970 at up to 15 days. Settings, display use, music and GPS modes change real-world runtime, so compare the mode you actually plan to use rather than a single headline number.
