A Garmin battery claim only makes sense when you know the watch model, case size and operating mode. “Up to 15 days” in smartwatch mode is not the same as 15 days of continuous GPS recording. Match the mode to your activity before comparing watches.

These are Garmin's maximum estimates, not RBO test results. The fēnix activity-mode label differs from the GPS-only labels above, so do not read the table as a controlled performance test.
Why GPS and music shorten runtime
Recording an outdoor activity uses positioning and other activity functions. Music playback adds another demand. Different satellite settings can also change the balance between runtime and tracking. For example, Garmin's 970 rating changes from up to 26 hours in GPS-only mode to up to 14 hours with GPS-only and music. Compare the combined mode you plan to use.
Case size matters, but price is not a battery ranking
The Venu 4 and 570 ratings vary with size. Meanwhile, the less expensive Forerunner 70 has a longer listed smartwatch runtime than either 570 size. Choose around the combination of features, size and operating mode that matters to you.
A practical charging plan
- Start an unfamiliar long outing with a full charge.
- Check the mode selected for that activity.
- Allow extra margin instead of planning to finish at the published maximum.
- Make sure any intended music and maps are ready before leaving.
- Use your own activity history to learn the runtime of your chosen settings.
For a spare cable, check our Garmin USB-C charging/data cable against the exact watch's compatibility list. A connector that looks familiar is not enough to establish compatibility.
